Young Playwrights Project - Native Voices at the Autry National Center, Los Angeles, CA - 2001 - 2006
Thomas Dean Kellogg was brought in to design and lead this model, best practices program for Native American youth. The program was an educational outreach effort of the Autry National Center in conjunction with the Southern California Indian Center. This five-year residency program paired professional Native American writers and actors with young people, ages 11- 18, for an intensive, structured two-week playwriting workshop. The program culminated in public staged readings of the young people’s plays, directed by Kellogg, at the Wells Fargo Theater at the Museum of the American West in Griffith Park, Los Angeles, California. More than 40 original one-act plays were created by young people.
