In-School Programs
Our unique one-on-one method allows us to work effectively with middle and high school students using a broad range of skill sets and learning challenges. The program requires 20 hours of classroom time over one week (high school only) or two weeks (high school and middle school). During the first half of the sessions, students work with many adult mentors, both in groups and one on one. For the second half of the sessions, each young person is assigned an adult mentor and works exclusively with her or him to complete the play. The writing sessions are followed by at least one public presentation of the young writer’s work, usually in an assembly at the school. The young writers’ plays are given staged readings by professional theater artists. Additional staged readings in the community can be produced in the week following the workshop sessions or at a later date. These readings are a critical component of the process, bringing young people into community to have their voices heard and to celebrate their accomplishments.
